SECU Credit Union is seeking to identify a suitable candidate for the role of Branch Manager. To co-ordinate the day-to-day operations of the branch and ensure that all targets are met or exceeded, while consistently improving the overall business and surpassing customers’ expectations

Job Purpose

The job holder will report on all management, personnel and financial aspects of the branch accurately, timely and in an efficient and organized manner. He/She must ensure branch compliance with SECU’s policies and established systems and procedures. The incumbent will lead the implementation of the strategic plan initiatives aided by seamless alignment of key management processes, aimed at positioning the Company for long term competitive advantage. He/She will demonstrate strong leadership and management competencies and will report to the Operations Manager and be responsible for effectively achieving the lending and performance targets established for the branch.

Nature & Scope

The Branch Manager manages the general operations of the branch inclusive of the lending, accounting and customer service delivery functions. The position co-ordinates key functional areas and requires that the incumbent has intimate knowledge of the Credit Union industry, general and above-average knowledge of the range of Company policies, products and services.


The position of Branch Manager reports on all management, personnel and financial aspects of SECU’s Branch especially its lending programme. The sub-activities range from overseeing and executing loan processing to customer-delinquency monitoring and requires a broad command of not only credit union

knowledge but credit management practices and procedures. The position directs both professional and para-professional staff requiring in the process sound interpersonal, communications, listening and technical skills from the incumbent.

Key Responsibilities

1. Executes the pre-approved lending programme of the Branch ensuring in the process that all lending and operations policy guidelines are adhered to.
2. Ensures that all resourcing requirements are available for the effective management of Branch operations.
3. Approves loans within designated limits in accordance with SECU’s lending policies and procedures.
4. Prepares branch financial statements on a timely basis for submission to the Accountant.
5. Liaises with Marketing and Delinquency Control Clerk to ensure that loan portfolio performance levels are maintained.
6. Provides required assistance, advice, guidance, and directions to junior officers on loan policy guidelines and practices.
7. Performs the required administrative tasks in support of the lending programme and in accordance with existing policies and procedures.
8. Ensures that all associated accounting and financial requirements are executed in support of the branch operations.
9. Assists with the preparation of Annual Plans and Budgets.
10. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and communication across different departments and to manage members concerns.
11. Drives continuous improvement initiatives to optimize processes and enhance operational excellence.
12. Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
13. Assists the Operations Manager, as required from time to time.
14. Manages the performance of staff to ensure that Branch goals are met; engages in staff training, discipline, and motivation, and directs duties accordingly.
15. Monitors controlled Branch expenditure and to take necessary corrective action to maintain Budget.
16. To comply with HSSE requirements for maintaining stipulated risk management guidelines.

Qualifications Experience and Abilities

· A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Human Resource Management or any related field
· At least Five (5) years experience in a similar environment at a Managerial Level
· Must be confidential in all matters.
· Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision.
· Must be a team player.
· Excellent leadership and Management skills
· Effective customer relations skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships at all levels.
· Attention to detail and to meet stringent deadlines for submission of reports and recommended strategies.
· To maintain a high standard of honest and ethical behaviour
· To effect timely performance appraisals of staff
· Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Analytical mindset with the ability to multi-task and to make data-driven decisions.
· Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
· Excellent strategic, analytical, systems thinking and problem-solving skills;
· Knowledge of the company’s products and services will be an asset
· Proficiency in MS Office Suite
